Jacob Ramsey feels he is enjoying the best spell of his Aston Villa career to date.

The 20-year-old has started nine of the club's last 10 Premier League matches, making key contributions in the final third along the way.

Head coach Steven Gerrard has placed a lot of faith in Ramsey since taking over in November, and he’s seen that repaid by the hard-working midfielder.

Ramsey said: “In terms of performance-wise, this is probably my best run of form, scoring goals and creating goals. I’m looking to continue that."

He added: “He’s (Gerrard) given me a lot of confidence and you can see that in my performances.

“I’m always staying out after training and doing shooting with the coaches and other players.

“In my position, if you want to be a top, top player, I’ve got to start adding those numbers to my game.”

Ramsey was part of the team that battled to a 1-0 victory against Everton last time out, sending the squad into the winter break on a positive note.

And with players still adapting to the intricacies of how Gerrard wants to play, Ramsey believes more time on the training pitches will be very valuable to Villa.

“Since the gaffer and his new coaching staff have come in, it’s probably been a bit different in the identity and how he wants us to play,” he said.

“These two weeks during the winter break with no games gives us more time to develop that identity and get that nailed on.”
