Disappointed Matty Cash spoke of his desire to bounce back quickly after Sunday’s frustrating 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United.

Aston Villa’s three-match unbeaten run came to an end courtesy of Kieran Trippier’s deflected free-kick.

It was an out-of-character performance from the Villans as they came off second best in the north east, extending their winless record at St James’ Park since 2005.

And right-back Cash says Villa will be determined to work hard on the training pitch this week to help put that right against Watford on Saturday.

“Very disappointed, really,” he told VillaTV after defeat to the Magpies.

“I thought first half we were really bad, second half we came out and played a little bit better football, but we didn’t really do much.

“Really disappointed. It’s back to the drawing board and working hard this week to try and put things right next week.”

Asked what he felt was missing from the performance on Tyneside, Cash replied: “I don’t know, really.

“We prepared the same, we prepared really well.

“It’s just tough to take, it’s obviously a tough place to come but we need to be better as a team.

“As I say, we’ve got to put that behind us now and we’ve got a big week to get ready for a massive game next weekend.”
