 Aston Villa’s three-match unbeaten run came to an end as they suffered a 1-0 reverse at Newcastle United.

In the 50^th Premier League meeting between the two sides, Kieran Trippier’s deflected free-kick in the 35^th minute proved the difference, with Ollie Watkins seeing a second-half header ruled out for offside by VAR.

The defeat was Villa’s first in six meetings against the Magpies, extending their winless record at St James’ Park since 2005.
