Cameron Archer has spoken of his joy after putting pen to paper on a new deal at Aston Villa.

The 20-year-old striker has signed a five-year contract at Villa Park on the eve of the 2022/23 season.

Archer enjoyed a prolific campaign last term, netting 10 goals in five cup games, before bagging seven on loan at Preston North End during the second half of the season.

And after committing his long-term future to Villa, Archer could not be happier.

“I’m delighted,” he told VillaTV.

“I’ve finally got it over and done with and I can concentrate on football now.”

Reflecting on last season, Archer added: “As a striker, you want to just score goals, that’s what you’re on the pitch for and it gives me a lot of confidence.

“When I watch the goals back as well, it gives me confidence to go out and do it again.”

Archer says his loan spell at Deepdale has given him invaluable experience and he hopes to bring everything he’s learned here to Aston Villa.

Head coach Steven Gerrard has confirmed the youngster will play an important role in his first-team squad this season.

And Archer is looking forward to testing himself in the Premier League.

“He wants to see goals when I’m on the pitch, he wants to see me making my runs, things I’m good at,” added Archer.

“You’ve got players like Danny Ings, Ollie Watkins and he wants to keep me around to fight for a place in the squad.”
