Jacob Ramsey admitted it was a “proud moment” to sign a new five-year contract with his boyhood club.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who joined Aston Villa at the age of six, on Tuesday put pen to paper on a deal until 2027.

And Academy graduate and lifelong fan Ramsey said he was “over the moon” to commit his long-term future to Villa Park.

“It’s a proud moment for me, especially for my family,” he told VillaTV.

“I’ve been here a long time now, come through the Academy, and to sign for another five years at this club, I’m over the moon.”

He added: “There’s so many people who have helped me get to this point now, I can’t thank everyone enough from Under-9s, to being a scholar, to U23s and then stepping up to the first team.

“It’s been good; a lot of up and down moments but it’s all part of the journey and I feel like I’ve been playing well this season so it’s nice to be rewarded with a new contract.”

Ramsey has made 30 Premier League appearances for the club this term, finding the net an impressive six times and registering one assist.

He made his senior debut for Villa at home to West Bromwich Albion in February 2019, before enjoying a short loan spell with Doncaster Rovers in the second half of the 2019/20 campaign.

Ramsey made his Premier League bow last term as a second-half substitute at Fulham before enjoying his full debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers in mid-December.

The talented youngster would go on to make 22 appearances in the top-flight in 2020/21 and has been a regular in the heart of midfield for Villa this season.

Ramsey, an England Under-21 international, scored his first goal for the club at Arsenal in October, since adding five more goals to his tally as well as finding the net on the international stage for the Young Lions last month.

And he has plenty more aspirations to fulfil with Villa.

“I think everyone knows that the owners, Christian (Purslow) and the gaffer have got big ambitions,” added Ramsey.

“So I think the obvious one is to play European football.

“My plan for the next five years is to get this club playing European football again.”
