Ajani Burchall dragged a left-footed effort wide from a promising position in the first half and it from his surging run which Villa took the lead in the 37th minute, the Villa forward brought down in the area by Joe Sheridan and Sewell sent the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot.
James Wright made a smart close-range save to deny Jadan Raymond in the second period before a flowing move, started by Pierre just outside Villa’s penalty area, doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 67th minute.
Pierre won possession and laid the ball off to Sewell, who carried it forward and found substitute Tommi O’Reilly, he played it out left to Burchall to cross low for Pierre, having run the length of the pitch, to take a touch and finish from 12 yards out.
However, the visitors reduced the deficit just two minutes later courtesy of left-back Tayo Adaramola’s finish.
And Palace were level in the 73rd minute as they won the ball in Villa’s half and broke forward, Kayden Rodney laying it off for Maliq Cadogan to slot home.
The hosts were then indebted to keeper Wright for a superb save to tip Victor Akinwale’s header on to a post before clearing the ball to safety as both sides pushed for a winner.
