Frédéric Guilbert was one of nine Aston Villa loanees in action at the weekend, as he made his second debut for Strasbourg in Ligue 1.

The full-back started and played 65 minutes before being substituted, as his second spell with the French club began with 3-1 defeat away at Lyon.

In Croatia, Lovre Kalinic returned to captain Hajduk Split for their 3-1 victory over Istra, with Marko Livaja's hat-trick grabbing the headlines. 

Conor Hourihane made his Sheffield United debut on Saturday as Slaviša Jokanovic's side recorded their first win of the Championship season.

The midfielder came on for the final 19 minutes at Bramall Lane, with the Blades securing an impressive 6-2 win over Peterborough United.

Indiana Vassilev was an unused substitute in MLS for Inter Miami's 1-0 victory over Columbus Crew, while Louie Barry was also unused as Ipswich Town fell to a disappointing 5-2 defeat at home against Bolton Wanderers in League One. 

There was plenty of Villa interest in League Two, with four youngsters in action over the weekend.

Kaine Kesler-Hayden started and played the full 90 minutes for Swindon Town but they were beaten 2-1 at home by Port Vale, while Tyreik Wright also started and was substituted after an hour of Salford City's 1-0 win over Bradford City. 

Finn Azaz came on at half-time of Newport County's 2-2 draw with Harrogate Town, with Brad Young also appearing as a second-half substitute for Carlisle United but unable to prevent a 2-1 defeat at Crawley Town. 

In the National League, Arjan Raikhy was substituted after 32 minutes of Stockport County's 3-0 defeat to Yeovil Town, while Seb Revan was an unused substitute for Grimsby Town as won 3-1 away at Torquay United. 

Ákos Onódi started and kept a clean sheet to help Bromsgrove Sporting to a 1-0 win over Hitchin Town on Saturday. 

Wesley, Dominic Revan and Mungo Bridge were not involved for their respective loan clubs at the weekend.
