Jed Steer was handed his third Premier League start for Aston Villa’s clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (ko 5.30pm).
The goalkeeper lined up between the sticks in a top-flight clash for the first time since November 2019, coming against Wolves at Molineux, with Emi Martínez absent due to his international involvement for Argentina and the requirement to comply with the UK’s Covid quarantine regulations.
With compatriot Emi Buendía also unavailable for the encounter, Dean Smith made a total of five changes from the 1-1 draw against Brentford prior to the international break.
Captain Tyrone Mings returned alongside John McGinn, Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins, who came in for his first start of the campaign having regained full fitness.
Anwar El Ghazi and Ashley Young were named among the substitutes, alongside fit-again trio Leon Bailey, Bertrand Traore and Morgan Sanson.
