During the build-up to the 2021/22 season, many FPL managers planned to invest in Aston Villa players for Gameweeks 1-3 before selling ahead of the Gameweek 4 fixture swing. However, managers who did sell their Villans will likely be regretting their decision given that Villa have put in arguably their best performances of the campaign in the last two weeks.

Gameweek 5’s 3-0 victory over Everton was a real statement of intent from Dean Smith’s men and it has made many FPL managers consider reversing their decision and reinvesting in Villa assets.

Emi Martinez (£5.5m) returned to the starting XI following his international quarantine to register his owners a shut-out as well as two bonus points, while Matty Cash (£5.0m) chipped in with a goal, clean sheet and maximum bonus.

Tyrone Mings (£5.0m) was tied third for aerial duels won across the Gameweek with eight, with the Villa defence once again looking primed for investment.

In the 20 minutes he played on Saturday evening, Leon Bailey (£6.4m) captured the attention of FPL managers around the world with a goal and an assist.

In his substitute appearance, Bailey managed 11 touches, nine of which were in the opponent’s half. He also received seven passes, five of those in the final third.

Meanwhile, Danny Ings (£8.0m) was one of only five forwards in the game to register an assist during Gameweek 5.

Ings and Ollie Watkins’ (£7.3m) records against the ‘big six’ should make them good picks over the next few weeks with them both returning against three of these clubs during the 2020/21 season.
