Mark Delaney was delighted with Aston Villa’s display as they beat Wycombe Wanderers in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night.
The Young Lions overcame an early setback to win through Cameron Archer’s leveller and a brace from Jaden Philogene-Bidace.
After three seasons and five matches, it was the club’s first victory in the competition, and Delaney was thrilled with the performance.

He said: “It just shows that from the previous experiences we’ve had, players are starting to learn.
“We had to weather the first ten or 15 minutes when we looked a bit shaky, a bit nervous. After that, we caused them a lot of problems.
“We spoke about a few things at half-time, we came out and I thought we played through the pitch really well. We created some chances, missed a few but I’m pleased for the boys.
“We had to weather a storm towards the end but then we got the third to kill the game. Overall, we deserved it.”
From Oliwier Zych in goal through to Caleb Chukwuemeka up front, there were strong performances all over the pitch.

None more so than the goalscorers, who showed exactly why they’ve been training with Dean Smith’s first team.
Delaney said: “It shows that the boys who’ve trained with the first team are showing the ability to be in that environment.
“Jaden, Cam, you can see the difference it’s made to them. Jaden looks stronger, fitter, quicker and he’s got an end product now as well.
“They’re in and around the first team, which is what Dean wants. On the pitch it’s showing the work they’ve been doing in training, and they’re getting their rewards.”
