Emiliano Martínez (£5.5m) reminded Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers why he was the standout goalkeeper pick in the 2020/21 season during Gameweek 9, with his ten-point haul against former side Arsenal.
The Argentine registered six saves, the third most for any goalkeeper across the gameweek, as well as two bonus points, alongside his five additional points for saving Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s (£10.0m) penalty.
In the Premier League last season, Martínez registered an impressive 44 points against the five sides that Villa next face in the division. These results included three double digit hauls.
He is third for total points amongst goalkeepers after Gameweek 9. When compared to the two goalkeepers who have registered more points so far, Martínez is registering more touches per match.

This is positive from an FPL perspective as it means that he is more likely to register save points and bonus points as a result of increased involvement in the game. The 29-year-old has registered a 183 Bonus Point System (BPS) score so far this season, in comparison to 182 for Alisson and 180 for Édouard Mendy. His BPS baseline is 147, compared to 120 for Chelsea’s shot stopper and 122 for the Liverpool man.
Martínez is also one of only three goalkeepers to save a penalty in the league so far this season. Just one goalkeeper in the £5.5m-and-under bracket has registered more clean sheets than the three Martínez has so far this season - Robert Sanchez (£4.5m) with four - and he has made one more appearance.
For FPL managers looking to redeploy money and spend more on a goalkeeper, Martínez looks like a fantastic option through to the next wildcard window.
