Villa Introducing has announced their inaugural Band of the Month winners.
The club’s new enterprise was launched last month, aiming to give a platform to local Villa-loving musicians by championing their songs and featuring them on the official Aston Villa Spotify playlist.
And after a superb response to our call for acts to send in their tracks, Birmingham band LOVEBREAKERS are the recipients of our first Band of the Month award.
Band of the Month: LOVEBREAKERS
LOVEBREAKERS were formed in 2018 in Birmingham. Four friends with a love for timeless guitar music, they began writing songs with the idea of eventually recording a full-length album.
Fast forward to 2019 and the band headed for the sunshine of Los Angeles, California. The band’s demos had caught the attention of producer Davey Warsop, a native Brummie himself who was based in LA.
'Primary Colours' the debut album from LOVEBREAKERS was recorded in three weeks in March 2019 in LA. Singles 'Family Man', 'Horizons' and 'Laura' have all had national and international day-time radio play.
Along with amplifying their sound on the Villa Introducing playlist and official Aston Villa matchday playlist, we spoke to frontman Jack Perry after informing the band of the good news...
Congratulations! You’re the first ever Villa Introducing Band of the Month. How does it feel?
"Thank you so much! As a lifelong Aston Villa fan, I’m absolutely buzzing for LOVEBREAKERS to be the first ever Band of the Month. It's an incredible feeling!"
We’ve added your track ‘Family Man’ to the official AVFC playlist. Can you tell a little more about how it was created?
"The lyrics to 'Family Man' are about starting your own family. A close friend of mine had his first baby and my imagination began to run wild. I envisioned him doing the stereotypical day-to-day dad chores, like washing the people carrier and saving diligently for a family holiday. It has this kind of literal, social commentary about it and I think it’s a song in which lot of people can relate to, especially new parents."
Who would be the ultimate Villa player, past or present, to feature on a LOVEBREAKERS track?
"I watched John Terry sing ‘Stand By Me’ during his initiation and the man has got some pipes! LOVEBREAKERS feat JT has a nice ring to it..."
You’ve got the choice between playing a gig at Villa Park or seeing the Villan’s take Premier League glory on the last day of the season. Which do you choose and why?
"I’m going to say Villa taking Premier League glory on the last day (beating Wolves), but then as our captain lifts the trophy, LOVEBREAKERS are on a stage behind the players. We then play ‘Family Man’ and Villa Park goes off!"
On the music front, LOVEBREAKERS are really starting to turn some heads – can you tell us more about your plans for the rest of this year and 2022?
"We’re recording some songs for a local TV show called Raw Sound TV which will be available to watch (online) in December. We are also doing a London show before the year is out so if you're based down south, come see us. In terms of 2022, we have scheduled to record our second album in January/February time so brace yourselves for a bunch of new LOVEBREAKERS songs next year. Then finally, in the summer we go on a European tour with LA punk legends Social Distortion alongside playing music festivals in the UK and Europe."
