Aston Villa secured progress to the quarter-finals of the European Cup on this day in 1981 as we continued our march to an historic triumph.
Having seen off Valur in the first round, Villa registered a 2-1 triumph in our second round first leg tie against Dynamo Berlin in then East Germany.
Tony Morley scored a stunning volley after just five minutes before the hosts headed in an equaliser early in the second half.
Goalkeeper Jimmy Rimmer then produced a superb late save to keep out Artur Ullrich from close range after his initial penalty had rebounded off a post, with Morley subsequently scoring a memorable individual goal moments later to cap a brilliant brace and a hard-fought victory.
The Villans suffered a 1-0 defeat at Villa Park on November 4, 1981 but duly progressed on the away goals rule to reach the last eight of the competition and set up a quarter-final showdown against Dynamo Kiev.
As we continue to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the club's European Cup success, join Morley and Villa team-mates Gordon Cowans, Gary Shaw and Terry Donovan to relive our second-round triumph over Dynamo Berlin en route to the final in Rotterdam.
