Brad Hickman, a lifelong Villa fan, was a special guest at the club’s Bodymoor Heath Training Ground today, where he completed a year-long challenge with the aid of a very familiar face.

On Tuesday afternoon, Brad ticked off an incredible 365 consecutive days on which he has registered a five-kilometre run - all to raise funds and awareness for a hospice that is very dear to him.

Alongside two friends and his uncle, Brad was also joined by our Assistant Head Coach John Terry, who surprised him by offering to also run his final 5k together.

John became aware of his magnificent efforts via social media and wanted to play his part, so the club invited Brad to finish off his 12-month-long challenge at the training ground.

A year ago, Brad set off on the first of his consecutive daily 5k runs in the hope of raising money for the Mary Stevens Hospice, who provided his mother with end-of-life care in 2011 before she sadly passed away.

Just a few weeks ago, Brad’s father also sadly passed away but, determined to complete his challenge, on the day his father died and on the day of his funeral, Brad somehow mustered up the strength and courage to maintain his run of consecutive 5ks.

To date, he has raised over £16,000 for the hospice as well as crucial awareness for their vital work.

Speaking after he completed his challenge, Brad said: “What an experience!

“To get the phonecall late last night, I didn’t really know what to expect coming here.

“I wasn’t expecting to go into the media centre, I wasn’t expecting to have my photo in front of the board that Dean Smith and the boys have their interviews in front of.

“And then when I’m having a little chat about the board and what it means to me and what it’s done for me the last year, for John Terry to come in truly took my breath away.

“Then to run around with JT, giving an insight into what his career has been about, then to come and see some of the lads, from a bit of a distance, it’s great.

“It means so, so much to me, so much to the hospital. To be a lifelong Villa fan and my mom being a lifelong Villa fan, I couldn’t have asked for anything more to finish my 365 days on.”
