Double Gameweeks can make or break a season for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

With Gameweek 35 featuring nine clubs playing at least twice, including Aston Villa, this is the perfect opportunity for managers to try to make ground or pull away in their mini-leagues.

With scheduled fixtures against Manchester United and Everton, Villa will be facing a pair of defences who have both conceded in two of their last three Premier League games. Indeed, Gameweek 35 will see a rematch of the Gameweek 34 tie against the Toffees where Villa came out on the right side of a 1-2 scoreline.

Everton v Aston Villa

During that open match Villa racked up 13 shots, which bodes well for Ollie Watkins (£6.5m) and the Aston Villa attack more generally heading in to the Double Gameweek.

Watkins has now returned in six of his last seven Premier League fixtures and has now overtaken Tottenham’s Harry Kane (£11.9m) as the forward player with the most threat in the game according to the ICT Index (calculated from attacking actions, pitch location and attempts).

Midfielder Anwar El Ghazi (£5.2m) could be an excellent differential choice. He has returned in each of his last two Premier League outings and is averaging more shots per 90 minutes than almost every other midfielder in the division.

Emiliano Martinez

Emiliano Martinez (£5.4m) looks to offer one of the best goalkeeping FPL options once again this week. He is a full 21 FPL points ahead of his nearest competitor, Leeds’s Illan Meslier (£4.7m), over the season and of the goalkeepers who have two fixtures this week, Martinez has registered the most saves with 120. Crystal Palace’s Vincente Guaita (£4.8m) is second on exactly 100.

A defensive double-up with Martinez could be a good option this week especially if FPL managers look to Tyrone Mings (£5.4m). Mings was second for clearances, blocks and interceptions in Gameweek 34 with 14 and over the whole campaign he is also second with an impressive 224, just two behind Southampton’s Jan Bednarek (£4.7m). Mings also has some attacking upside having registered two goals and two assists this season.

Unlike Arsenal, Chelsea, Leciester City and Manchester United, who all follow their Double Gameweek with a blank in Gameweek 36, Aston Villa options look promising not just because of the impending double, but also across the remaining weeks of the season, therefore making them a wise transfer investment.
