Wesley stepped up his recovery on Friday as he made his long-awaited return to match action for Aston Villa.

The striker pulled on a claret and blue shirt for the first time in almost 15 months as he took part in the first 45 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly against West Bromwich Albion at Bodymoor Heath.

Wesley has been sidelined since suffering knee ligament damage against Burnley on New Year’s Day in 2020.

And, following lengthy rehabilitation, the Brazil international has now taken the next step on his road to recovery.
