Aston Villa Women lost 3-0 to Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday.

Goals from Kirsty Hanson, Jess Sigsworth and Katie Zelem summarised a commanding performance from the hosts.

Villa will head back home and prepare for the visit of Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday 17th March.

Just the one change was made following last weekend's defeat to Arsenal, with Shania Hayles replacing Nadine Hanssen to form a front three with Mana Iwabuchi and Stine Larsen.

Depite the attacking look to the lineup, it was United who would dictate the first half.

Villa stood firm for almost half an hour, before eventually falling behind after sustained pressure from Casey Stoney's side.

Chloë Arthur, under pressure inside the Villa half, gave the ball away to Hanson who let fly from the edge of the area.

The strike took an unfortunate deflection off of Elisha N'Dow before going in via the underside of Lisa Weiß's crossbar.

It looked like Villa may have been able to go into half-time with just a one-goal deficit on their hands, but Sigsworth put paid to that when she powerfully headed home a free-kick on 43 minutes to put the hosts firmly in control.

The clear-cut chances dried up somehwhat as the game wore on, but the hosts did add to their lead when Zelem headed in a third.

After that, the game fizzled out as United ran down the clock and celebrated three points.

As for Villa, they will now be keeping their eyes on results elsewhere before they face Brighton on the 17th.
