A Friday night game for Aston Villa means an early deadline for Fantasy managers in Gameweek 28. The most astute Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players will be making transfers this week with one eye focused on Blank Gameweek 29, too.

Villa face a Newcastle side who have scored two goals and conceded six in the last four Gameweeks, and have an all-important fixture in Blank Gameweek 29 when only eight sides play.

Emiliano Martinez (£5.4m) yet again proved himself to be the go-to goalkeeper option in FPL with his 14th clean sheet of the season. Only Manchester City’s Ederson (£6.1m) has more and he has played an extra game.

Ezri Konsa v Wolves

However, it was Ezri Konsa (£4.5m) who really impressed in Double Gameweek 27. Konsa registered two goal attempts during the match, more than all of the other Villa defenders combined. He was also Villa’s top defender for pass completion, with an outstanding 93%.

Konsa’s £4.5m FPL price tag makes him a great option for doubling up on a Villa defence who have kept four clean sheets in their last six Premier League matches. Owned by just 6.6% of the game, he is a greater differential than most of his team-mates and could be a great boost for managers looking to climb mini-league tables and overall rank.

Ollie Watkins’ (£6.6m) and his owners were unlucky not to register attacking returns against Wolves. Watkins was top among forwards for shots this Gameweek with six, second for penalty area touches with only West Brom’s Mbaye Diagne (£6.0m) registered one more, and was second for touches in the opposition’s half with only Leicester’s Kelechi Iheanacho (£5.6m) more involved.

Bertrand Traore

Facing a Newcastle defence which has kept two clean sheets since the turn of the year, Watkins looks like the perfect forward option for this Gameweek as well as for beyond as he faces Spurs in Blank Gameweek 29 followed by Fulham in Gameweek 30.

Bertrand Traore (£5.9m) has also continued to impress. In the last four Gameweeks he ranks top for goal attempts by Villa midfielders with seven, top for shots in the box with six, top for penalty area touches with 12, top for big chances with three and he is joint top with Anwar El Ghazi (£5.3m) for goal conversion at 14.3%.

At just 1.3% owned, Traore is the perfect differential pick, especially as he is outperforming players such as Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) who is more than double the price and has a lower goal conversation rate, a lower minutes per goal ratio and less big chances scored than the Villa midfielder.
