Aston Villa’s path through the 2021/22 season became clear this morning with the release of the Premier League fixtures.

There are plenty of great games to look forward to throughout the campaign as the club look to build on an 11th place finish last time around.

In this article, we take a look at the first five fixtures, the festive period, Villa’s derby duels and the closing five games of the upcoming season…

The First Five

After one season in the Championship, Watford are back in the top flight after securing automatic promotion, and the Hornets are our opening day opponents at Vicarage Road on August 14.

Seven days later and the first home game of the new season beckons, with Newcastle United the visitors to Villa Park – a game that’s scheduled to have a full house in the stadium.

Another home tie against Premier League new boys Brentford (August 28) is up next before a trip to Chelsea (September 11) and a home tie against Everton (September 18) follow the first international break.

The Festive Period

December starts with a FA Cup winners Leicester City visiting Villa Park (December 4) before away trips to Liverpool (December 11) and Norwich City (December 14).

As Christmas Day moves closer, Burnley visit on December 18 ahead of a tantalising Boxing Day clash against Chelsea at Villa Park.

2021 is finished off with a trip to Leeds United (December 28), and the New Year begins at Dean Smith’s old side Brentford (January 1).

Derby Days

With West Bromwich Albion relegated from the Premier League last term, it leaves only two derby days in the 2021/22 league calendar.

Wolves visit Villa Park on October 16 and the reverse fixture is scheduled for April 2 at Molineux.

The Final Five

We enter the home stretch of the season with a visit to the King Power to play Leicester City on April 23.

Seven days later, Norwich City arrive at Villa Park before Dean Smith’s side head up to Burnley on May 7.

The final home game of the season sees us take on Crystal Palace on May 15, with our last away trip seeing us journey to the reigning champions Manchester City (May 22).
