The Changemakers programme is a female leadership programme delivered by the Aston Villa Foundation that seeks to inspire and empower girls aged 11-17 and develop their leadership skills, in and away from sport.
The project, which officially launched on Sunday 11th July at Villa Park and was attended by 20 girls, has been funded by the Premier League and will be delivered fortnightly until March/April 2022.
As part of the programme, participants will complete leadership qualifications and will meet special guests including female staff from the Foundation and the club, who will help to inspire the girls and show them different pathways that they may choose to go down in the future.
James Lowbridge, Interventions Manager for the Aston Villa Foundation, said: "It was fantastic to launch the Changemakers programme at Villa Park yesterday. We are excited to be offering this initiative to girls in the local area, to help empower and inspire them to become the next leaders of tomorrow.
"Over the next nine months or so, we will have at least 30 girls qualified as sports leaders and be at the forefront of campaigns and events to help address local issues."
