Gameweek 22 may not have gone Aston Villa’s way in terms of the full-time result but from an FPL perspective, there were numerous positives that we can take from the game.

Even without a clean sheet, Emiliano Martinez (£5.2m) brought in the points. He registered six saves and a bonus point in the defeat to West Ham United, with those four points enough to keep him at the top of the goalkeepers’ points table.

Jack Grealish (£7.8m) and Ollie Watkins (£6.3m) both returned six points when combining for the goal, with the Villa captain also picking up a bonus point from the game.

Delivering the goods

Jack Grealish

Grealish has now returned in each of his last four Premier League matches, bringing in 26 points in the process. Watkins has been in similarly impressive form, with returns in three of the last four Gameweeks.

Heading into Gameweek 23, Villa will face an Arsenal side missing both David Luiz (£5.4) and Bernd Leno (£5.0m) through suspension.

For those FPL managers looking for further positive omens, Grealish has attacking returns in two of his last three meetings with the north London club.

Forward thinking

Ollie Watkins

Looking beyond the in-form midfielder, Watkins is arguably the FPL forward to own right now.

When strikers under £6.5m are sorted by penalty area touches, Watkins sits top of the pile with 138. He is also first among this group for goals scored with nine, big chances scored with eight and total attempts with 59.

Sitting first for threat and third for creativity among the forwards in the ICT Index and still only owned by 18.1%, Watkins should be every FPL manager's forward of choice right now.
