Tyrone Mings has reflected on the “huge honour” of becoming Aston Villa captain in an exclusive interview with VillaTV.
The 28-year-old was selected by head coach Dean Smith to take the armband ahead of the first game of the season against Watford.
And in an interview with Michelle Owen, Mings expressed his delight at being given the responsibility.

“It’s a huge honour, it really is,” he said.
“I was fortunate enough to join the club on loan and then sign permanently. I got a flavour of how big the club was then.
“To have gone on the journey with the club and my own personal development over the past two years, to be named captain is a huge honour.”
Mings came through the non-league ranks before turning pro with Ipswich Town in December 2012, eventually earning a move to Bournemouth.
After helping Villa back to the Premier League while on loan, the defender has gone from strength to strength since joining the club permanently and is now an established member of the England squad.

Mings feels he’s ready for captaincy.
He said: “I’ve been fortunate enough to learn under some great people throughout my career. I’ve played for some really brilliant managers that I’ve been able to take little bits of Information, knowledge and wisdom from.
“I’ve played for some great captains as well, so I’ve been able to learn what they’re like. People that lead in different ways.
“I’ve auditioned for the role in the time that I’ve been here, in terms of some of the things I’ve been involved with.
“To get the responsibility and be named captain is a huge thing. Having that armband and that responsibility is a great thing.”
