Aston Villa Women were knocked out of this season's FA Cup in ruthless fashion on Saturday, losing 8-0 to Manchester City.

City had contributions from Chloe Kelly, Ellen White, Janine Beckie, Georgia Stanway, Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis, and look well on their way to retaining the Cup.

Marcus Bignot made seven changes from the side that were defeated by Everton before the international break.

Sian Rogers and Amy West both made their first starts since November, while Nat Haigh also returned in the heart of defence.

City selected a strong starting XI despite facing a monumental league clash versus Chelsea on Wednesday.

That strength soon told, as Kelly turned home a corner inside 20 minutes to give the hosts the lead.

Gareth Taylor's side continued to bombard Villa from all angles, and doubled their lead on 34 minutes when White expertly turned home a Lauren Hemp cutback from the left-hand side.

Kelly added her second and City's third before the break, and the tie quickly became about damage limitation for Villa.

The fortunes of Bignot's side didn't change, though, after half-time.

Beckie, on at the interval for the hosts, found the back of the net from a wide position to add a fourth.

Stanway got on the end of a free-kick routine to slide in a fifth just shy of the hour mark, which prompted Villa into a triple change.

Jodie Hutton, Nadine Hanssen and Stine Larsen all entered the fray for the final 30 minutes.

The substitutions paid little dividends in the immediate term, as Rose Lavelle swept in City's sixth in clinical style.

Villa continued to battle into the latter stages, and almost grabbed a consolation when Nadine Hanssen thundered an effort against the crossbar after dispossessing City in the final third.

There was still time for City to further add insult to injury before the final whistle, and Kelly completed her hat-trick while Mewis thrashed home an eighth.

Focus now turns to Tuesday for Villa, as the first of four pivotal league fixtures takes place against West Ham United at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.
