Aston Villa will have considered themselves unlucky not to have left Anfield with a point on Sunday evening. However, Ollie Watkins (£6.5m) continued his post-international break goalscoring run, making it two in two in the Premier League and three in as many matches in all competitions for club and country.

With just seven Gameweeks to go until the end of the season, many FPL managers are in the process of playing - or planning for - their second and final Wildcard.

Sitting in 24.6% of squads, Watkins is the fourth most-owned forward in the game and his popularity looks set to continue.

Ollie Watkins

The striker has the best expected goal involvement (xGI) figure of 2020/21 among forwards priced at £6.5m and under.

He is also the only player in his Fantasy position who is yet to miss a minute of Premier League football this season. With the added benefit of an additional fixture still to be rearranged for Villa, Watkins has claims on being the best-value striker in the game.

He has now scored 12 Premier League goals this season, the most in the Aston Villa side and more than many, far more expensive FPL forwards such as Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus (£9.2m), Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino (£9.0m) and Chelsea’s Timo Werner (£9.2m). Just four Premier League strikers have registered more goals this season than Watkins and they are all pricier in FPL.

Like teammate Watkins, John McGinn (£5.5m) continued the attacking form he showed for Scotland with an assist in Gameweek 31. McGinn could be the perfect option for FPL managers looking to invest in a value midfielder with guaranteed game-time until the end of the season.

Emi Martinez

There was a section of the FPL community that changed their goalkeeper strategy ahead of Gameweek 31.

A lot of managers may have immediately regretted selling Emiliano Martinez (£5.4m), however, as although he didn’t keep a clean sheet at Anfield, he still registered an impressive eight stops - resulting in two save points and a bonus point.

Martinez’s ability to deliver in FPL, even if he does not shut the opposition out, is a great reason to leave him as your set-and-forget goalkeeper for the rest of 2020/21.

Martinez remains joint-second for clean sheets this season and has also made 113 saves, the fourth-highest in the league. This is especially impressive considering that those goalkeepers nearest him for clean sheets and goals conceded, Ederson (£6.1m) and Edouard Mendy (£5.2m), have only managed 51 and 46 stops respectively.

The Argentina international is the best-value FPL asset in any position, based on points per million spent (29.8).
