Emiliano Martínez paid tribute to his new teammates after producing a fine debut display to help Aston Villa to a 1-0 win over Sheffield United on Monday night.

The Argentine only joined the club last Wednesday but he made a decisive impact just 36 minutes into his debut, producing a sublime penalty save from John Lundstram.

Villa went on to take full advantage and all three points thanks to Ezri Konsa’s strike just after the hour mark.

Martínez is already feeling right at home and when he joined VillaTV following the full-time whistle, he was understandably delighted.

He said: "When you get three points, a clean sheet and a penalty save; it's like scoring a hat-trick for me.

“I felt part of the squad since day one, that’s credit to my teammates and the staff.

“When you come to a new club and have only four or five training sessions, but the lads, fans and staff welcome you really nicely, it helped me to perform today.

“I have to give confidence to the back-four. That was my only target, today I did it, and hopefully I keep doing that during the whole season, with consistency.”
