Dean Smith spoke to VillaTV after seeing his side exit the Carabao Cup against Stoke City.
A first half strike from Sam Vokes was enough to send the Championship side through to the last eight at Aston Villa’s expense.
And the Head Coach wasn’t happy with the performance from the same starting XI that dismantled Bristol City in the previous round.
He said: “I’m deeply disappointed with the first half display. We played with no tempo, didn’t move the ball quick enough and made basic mistakes for the majority of it.
“We missed two open goal as well and we just didn’t get the basics right in the first half. For all the plaudits that these players took at Bristol City, this was a contrast to that.
“They got a reminder of that at half-time and I thought the second half was better, but we were never creative enough to create more chances.”
