Gemma Davies claims Wednesday’s game over Sheffield United was a ‘must-win game’, despite the season being in its early stages.
Following three straight defeats in league action for Aston Villa Women, Davies saw her side get off the mark in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup with a 1-0 win against the Blades.
Jodie Hutton’s first-half penalty settled the score, and the Head Coach now believes the group can all look forward to putting their bad form behind them.
“The most important thing was getting a reaction from Saturday” said Davies.
“I felt we got that.
“A clean sheet was really important to us."

Davies drew plenty of reasons to praise her group after the confidence-boosting victory, pointing out the qualities in the opposing camp that made for a hard-fought game on Wednesday.
“Sheffield United are a very good side” stated Davies.
“They’re hard to beat.
“They are super combative, super aggressive.
“We’ve had a reaction from the players, both in training and in the game.
“Overall, we’re pleased.”
Having scored what proved to be the game-winning goal, Hutton was subject to further adulation from her boss.
“We had some very good performances, Jodie Hutton being one example” Davies pointed out.
“She was fantastic today.
“Her application in training over recent weeks has been exceptional.
“She trains in the same way she plays, and we saw that in her sharpness and aggression.
“We also saw the Jodie that we know and love, and that was pleasing to see.”
