Aston Villa is saddened to hear of the passing of former goalkeeper Bobby Wilson, who has died at the age of 77.
Birmingham-born Wilson joined Villa in 1958, signing professional three years later.
His first-team chances were restricted by the presence of Nigel Sims and Geoff Sidebottom but he finally made his debut in a 2-2 draw at home to Sheffield Wednesday in March 1964, after Sidebottom was injured at Everton the previous Saturday.
He played the final nine matches of the 1963/64 campaign before joining Cardiff City that summer for £2,000.
In his first season at Ninian Park, he helped the Bluebirds to a Welsh Cup triumph and they also reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup Winners’ Cup before going out to Real Zaragoza.
In 1970 Wilson joined Exeter City, where he made over 200 appearances before retiring in 1976.
The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with Bobby’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
