As part of Aston Villa’s Remembrance Day activities, the club invited submissions from junior fans for a poetry competition.
And after receiving over 100 fantastic entries, a poem titled ‘I Remember’ has been declared as the winner by judges from official fan group Military Lions.
Talented trio Bailey, Jenson and Bella submitted the poem as a team, winning the top prize of a signed poppy shirt from Villa’s game against Arsenal on Sunday.
Here’s the poem in full…
I REMEMBER
I remember days out with Mom and Dad.
With my Brother and Sister what fun we had.
Walking in woods, playing lots of games.
Pointing to flowers and guessing their names
I remember the bright red Poppy field.
Giving hope to many and a feeling of healed.
A symbol of forces fighting to save us all.
On their hands and knees they had to crawl.
I remember too being taught at school
How the war was very destructive and cruel.
In the line of duty many had died.
Guns were fired from either side.
I remember putting coins in a collection tin.
Being handed a Poppy with also a pin.
It went on my jacket which I will wear.
To show that I understand and care.
I remember November 11th as the date.
Of all the fallen hero’s that died of late.
I will never forget the price they all paid
For our Kingdom and future that were saved.
I REMEMBER LET’S ALL REMEMBER
Along with the winner, the second and third place poems will be included in the Villa News & Record, for the home game against Brighton on November 21.
Second place went to Ruby, who submitted a handwritten entry that also showcased her drawing skills.

Third place was awarded to Keera, who used the club’s famous claret and blue colours in her submission.
