Aston Villa Women put on an offensive clinic on Tuesday, as they beat Coventry United 9-0 in the FA Women's Continental League Cup.

Nadine Hanssen scored a first-half hat-trick to put Villa in complete control before the interval, while Emily Syme also got on the scoresheet with an instinctive backheel.

The second half played out in very much the same fashion, as Emma Follis added a fifth from the spot, before Diana Silva and Shania Hayles got off the mark with doubles of their own.

The result leaves Gemma Davies' side in a commanding position atop Group A, as they look to qualify for the knockout stages for the second straight season.

Davies made seven changes to the side that beat Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, but was forced into an eighth before kick-off as Ella Franklin-Fraiture limped out of the warm-up.

Caro Siems took her place at right-back, while the entire 'front six' was also changed with a look towards the Second City derby on Saturday.

The heavy rotation did not show, however, as Villa went 2-0 up inside 10 minutes.

Hanssen, making her return to the starting lineup, was so often in the right place at the right time and took no time in clinically kick-starting her own goal tally for the season.

Syme got in on the act with an outrageous backheel from Follis' square ball, and the Villans went into the break in complete control.

While many teams would be forgiven for letting up, especially in the week of a derby, Gemma Davies' side showed no signs of doing that.

Follis won, and scored, a penalty kick to keep Villa's momentum going into the second half, while Silva and Hayles added doubles late on to put their own stamp on the game.

Villa, now with three straight wins and three straight clean sheets, head into Saturday's derby with supreme confidence.
