Aston Villa Women Head Coach, Gemma Davies, says she is pleased with her side's opening day display in the Barclays FA Women's Super League.
Despite falling to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City, Davies took plenty of positives from the Villa Park curtain-raiser.
"Overall, really pleased with our performance" she told VillaTV.
"We said from the outset that we wanted to be competitive, and I felt we were.
"For spells, we were arguably the better team."

Villa couldn't have made a worse start to life in the top flight, gifting the visitors two goals inside the first 30 minutes. But Davies was impressed with the reaction she witnessed from her team afterwards.
“Nerves and lack of focus" said Davies, when asked what those defensive mix-ups came down to.
"We came back from that very quickly" she followed up.
"We’ve got a strong group, strong characters.
With a chance of redemption next week against Reading, Davies insists there is plenty to be optimistic about.
“From where we were seven weeks ago, to where we are now, is chalk & cheese.
"The progression is so clear.
"I’m leaving today feeling really positive and optimistic.
"I’m proud of the group (of players) that were here last season.
"That’s really satisfying for me to see.”
Aston Villa Women continue their Barclays FA Women's Super League on Sunday 13th September, when they take on Reading at the Madejski Stadium (2pm KO).
