Aston Villa’s preparations for the 2020/21 Premier League season continued on Wednesday as Dean Smith’s side faced Bristol City in a behind-closed-doors friendly.
The first team squad have been working hard at their pre-season training camp over the past week and Dean Holden’s side provided the opposition for the first test of pre-season.
Villa’s first match action since the decisive 1-1 draw at West Ham United in July was made up of two 60-minute games and both were tight and competitive affairs.
In the first game, Robins forward Jamie Paterson scored the only goal of the hour, before both sides rotated their line-ups for the second 60 minutes of action.
Once again, only a single goal could separate the sides and the decisive strike came courtesy of Ally Samatta, with Villa seeing the hour through to take the win.
