Aston Villa is deeply saddened by the news former player Mike Tindall has passed away at the age of 79.
The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with Mike’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
The Birmingham-born wing-half gave excellent service to the club during a decade as a professional at Villa Park and was a popular figure with supporters because of his enthusiasm and work-rate.
Having joined the club straight from school in 1956, he signed his first contract two years later and impressed in Villa’s youth and reserve teams as well as winning England Youth caps.
He was given his initial taste of first team football in a couple of games during the 1959-60 Second Division championship campaign, although he then had to wait until the early part of the 1961-62 season for his next selection.
After recovering from a broken leg in 1964, he enjoyed his most regular spell in the team in 1965-66 and 1966-67.
He made a total of 136 league and cup appearances for the club, scoring nine goals, before joining Walsall in 1968.
Rest in peace, Mike.
