Jack Grealish hailed Keinan Davis for a “brilliant” performance as he made his first Premier League start in Wednesday’s draw against Sheffield United.
The 22-year-old was a lively threat all evening, causing the Blades defence all sorts of problems while going agonisingly close to finding the net on three occasions.
Speaking to VillaTV post-match, Villa captain Grealish admitted the dressing room was “gutted” not to have secured all three points despite creating the better chances throughout, while also acknowledging the game’s moment of controversy towards the end of the first half.
But the skipper hailed Davis’ display in the stalemate at Villa Park.
“He was brilliant,” said Jack.
“I bet you there’s probably fans out there who don’t know too much about Keinan.
“And there’s probably fans out there who didn’t expect him to play or didn’t think he should play.
“But we’ve been watching him now for the last 4-5 weeks, the manager’s been watching him and he’s come back in brilliant shape.
“He’s come back fit, raring to go, and, honestly, in training he’s been absolutely unplayable.
“So I think it was a no-brainer he was going to start between the team and the coaching staff.
“He did himself justice out there, it was just a shame he couldn’t get on the scoresheet.”
