Aston Villa Women held a virtual Player Awards evening on Saturday night.
A day after finding out they’d been awarded the FA Women’s Championship title, players and staff got together to celebrate their achievements during the 2019/20 season.
Four awards were handed out on the night: Players’ Player of the Season, Player of the Season, Supporters’ Young Player of the Season and Supporters’ Player of the Season.
The award winners are as follows…
Players’ Player of the Season: Marisa Ewers
The German midfielder joined from Birmingham City last summer, dropping down a division to bolster the club’s promotion push. And Ewers’ top tier quality was there for all to see as she dominated the midfield throughout the season. Breaking up attacks while scoring key goals along the way was enough for Ewers to be recognised by her peers.
Player of the Season: Elisha N’Dow
The staff looked to one of the club’s homegrown talents when selecting this award. N’Dow is Villa through and through and has been at the club since the age of 8, progressing through the ranks and into the first team. The centre-back showed why she’s one of the best in the Championship and she’ll now get a crack at the Super League.
Supporters’ Young Player of the Season: Jodie Hutton
Hutton tore the league to shreds as an all-action winger last season, finishing as Villa’s top scorer. However, this season Hutton missed the first few games due to injury before having to bide her time for an opportunity in a winning team. When that chance came she took it with both hands, flourishing at full-back and showing her versatility and class.
Supporters’ Player of the Season: Mel Johnson
Johnson had a great goalscoring record in the Championship before she joined Villa, and after only five games she had netted ten times – including three hat-tricks. With the team trailing 2-0 in the opening game of the season, Johnson’s treble wrestled the game back and set the tone for the team’s unbeaten season. She finished the campaign with 13 goals and four assists.
