With the fans still on cloud nine after the Wembley win, setting up an FA Cup final date with Arsenal, WhoScored.com preview Villa's return to Barclays Premier League action as they prepare for a trip to the Etihad Stadium.

After back-to-back wins away from Villa Park against Spurs and Liverpool, Tim Sherwood's men will be full of confidence and aiming to cause another upset in the evening kick-off.

Manchester City returned to winning ways themselves against West Ham last time out but haven't won successive league matches since the middle of February, surrendering their chance to retain the top-flight crown in the process.

The main mission for the Villans remains ensuring their top-flight status for next season and one more win would go a long way to doing that.

Another away day may not seem favourable but thus far only seven sides have picked up more wins than Villa on the road this season.

Their best chance of finding a route to goal may well be through their formidable trio on the left flank once again, with Fabian Delph, Christian Benteke and Jack Grealish combining superbly against the Reds.

The former has been encouraged to get forward more often since Sherwood's arrival and proved capable of making the difference in the final third in the capital, registering the assist for Benteke's leveller before grabbing the match-winner himself.

The England international knows that he is free to support his more attacking team-mates, safe in the knowledge that his midfield partners will be in position to thwart any possible counter-attacks.

One of those players that has excelled in recent weeks is Tom Cleverley, who would love to get one over on City having come through the ranks at Manchester United.

The 25-year-old has impressed lately with his tireless running - and the work-rate that he has shown during a loan spell this season has been unwavering.

Cleverley

His combative approach has proven particularly effective on the road, allowing Villa to regain possession and counter at pace, with each of his last three appearances away from Villa Park ending in victory for Sherwood's men.

With statistical ratings from WhoScored.com of 7.59 in the rout at Sunderland, 7.06 in victory at Spurs and 7.29 in the FA Cup semi-final, Cleverley has been in good form on the road.

Across said matches the midfielder has produced a huge 16 tackles, with only Carlos Sanchez (71) having made more in the Premier League this season for Villa than the loan player's 69.

With a statistical strength of 'concentration' according to WhoScored.com, the work of Cleverley can often go unnoticed but his role is a vital one in allowing the likes of Delph and in-form Benteke to thrive.

The Belgian continued his outstanding form against Liverpool, netting his ninth goal in seven appearances, and up against a City defence that will be without his compatriot Vincent Kompany, the striker will be confident of extending his scoring streak.

Sherwood has hailed the belief within his ranks, inspired by the fans' faith in the side since his arrival, and while returning to the Midlands with a result from the Etihad may seem an unenviable task, it's that renewed belief that will be crucial to Villa's chances today.
