Two supporters’ clubs enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Bodymoor Heath thanks to Trade Nation.

Aston Villa’s Principal Partner gifted a Play on the Pitch experience and behind-the-scenes tour to the Military Lions and London Lions.

European Cup winner Peter Withe and former flying winger Tony Daley were on hand to greet the groups and deliver a tour of the facilities before they took a photo with the UEFA Europa League trophy.

The teams changed into their personalised Villa kits before heading out on to the pitch, where managers Withe and Daley oversaw the action, which finished in a 6-2 victory for the London Lions.

The Military Lions were formed in 2017 by a small group of like-minded veterans headed by Cas Potter. Created for serving personnel, veterans and their families, the group has grown into a proud and welcoming supporters' club that represents Villa fans from the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force with a membership of over 400. This was their first time playing together in a football match.

Founded in 2016 from an idea by Matt Oliver, the London Lions have competed in the London Supporters League (LSL) since the club’s inception, bringing together members from the north, south east and west London Lions supporters' clubs.

What began as a ragtag gathering of 10 Villans in Canary Wharf for their very first training session quickly developed into something far greater, with the club now boasting more than 65 members.

Villa legend Withe said: “It’s tremendous for Tony and I (to be involved). We look forward to doing these events as we remember the supporters and they are the lifeblood of this football club. For us to engage and participate as team managers as well, it’s something we enjoy doing.

“Looking back to my younger days, for these fans to have the opportunity to participate and come to play at the training facility that their team uses, and appreciate what our players do to be the best they can be.

“The fact that Trade Nation have brought together two sets of supporters and provided this facility is tremendous and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the day and being part of it.”

Trade Nation added: “We at Trade Nation choose to partner with organisations with a great sense of passion and community and we’ve definitely felt that. I feel like we’ve chosen the right groups to join us here.”
