Could Aston Villa's Matty Cash (£4.3m) be a solid option for your Fantasy Premier League team this weekend? 

With well-owned defenders Riccardo Calafiori (£6.0m) and Maxim De Cuyper (£5.3m) set to face tricky away fixtures at Liverpool and Manchester City in Gameweek 9, plenty of Fantasy managers will be in the market for a new defender ahead of Saturday’s deadline.

And Villa's budget-friendly right-back is among the differential candidates. Five of the Villans’ next seven opponents sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table for goals scored.

But Cash, who was superb against City last weekend, will not be solely reliant on clean sheets. The right-back has banked defensive contribution (DefCon) points in each of his last two matches.

Remember, Cash helped himself to three goals and three assists in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, so he could also prosper down the right flank from an attacking perspective, as well as having realistic hopes of a clean sheet.

Furthermore, the Poland international’s affordable price point could help managers find room for other Villa players like Johan Manzambi (£6.1m) and Nicolas Jackson (£6.8m).

It is important to mention, however, that Cash is now just one booking away from a one-match ban following his latest caution in Gameweek 8.

A victory away at Coventry City last time out lifted Fulham to 15th in the table, with two wins, two draws and four defeats from eight matches.
