Aston Villa showed the full array of their attacking qualities to run out 3-2 winners from a thrilling match up against Everton in the Women's Super League on Sunday.

The away side raced into a three goal lead before the hour, with Noelle Maritz' early strike and an Amalie Vangsgaard's brace rubberstamping control of the contest.

While Everton pulled two back late on through Holly McNamara and Noemie Mouchon, Villa ultimately walked away from Goodison Park with a well earned three points .

Here's a run down of the key talking points as we made it back to back WSL wins on Merseyside...

Vibrant Vangsgaard

Striker Vangsgaard was the star turn for Aston Villa on Sunday, showing the complete array of her attacking skillset in a player of the match performance.

She had the most touches of any Villa player in the Everton box (12), took the most shots at goal (8), exceeded her xG (1.29) by scoring twice, and added an assist too.

She brilliantly held the ball up with her back to goal before playing a tremendous reverse pass for Maritz to finish for a fourth minute opener.

Then she twice impacted the scoreboard herself, demonstrating great awareness to lob Courtney Brosnan from 30 yards, before showing her penalty box prowess to prod home her second.

Marauding Maritz

Maritz's dangerous runs down the left flank caused headaches for her opposite number all afternoon.

Her slick combination with Vangsgaard in the opening minutes saw them slice through the Everton defence, before the full-back showed super composure to dink her finish over the on-rushing Brosnan.

That opener at Goodison Park was the second time Maritz has broken the deadlock for Villa in the Women's Super League this term, after doing so against Crystal Palace in our 1-1 draw last month.

The Swiss international has been one of the squad's top creators in 2026/27, ranking in the top three for expected assists per 90 and expected goals per 90 after featuring in each of our nine games so far.

Strengthened squad

Sunday's fixture saw the return of two more players from injury as the Villa squad continues to grow stronger by the week.

Lucia Kendall played 61 minutes on her return to the starting XI after regaining full fitness following a knock sustained on recent international duty.

Fellow midfielder Missy Bo Kearns was also back on the pitch.

She replaced Kendall for the final 30 minutes against Everton, marking her first appearance of the 2026/27 campaign after recovering from a foot injury suffered during pre-season.

Winning the week

Positive momentum continues to grow in the Villa ranks with victory over Everton our third success within a week across league and cup.

Villa netted seven goals across the three wins over Liverpool, Burnley and the Toffees.

Five different players wrote their names on the scoresheet across those victories, doing so in a variety of ways.

There were brilliant solo runs from Chasity Grant and Lily Murphy, while Georgia Mullett and Maritz showed composure from close range. Vangsgaard netted from near and far as she begins to flourish in the front line.

The Villans commanded 55% of the play away from home at both Turf Moor and Goodison Park, showing increased confidence as they settle into interim head coach Brian Sørensen's style of play.
