Tom Heaton began his professional career with Manchester United in 2003 but found first-team opportunities difficult to come by. He spent time on loan at several clubs (Swindon, Royal Antwerp, Cardiff, QPR, Rochdale and Wycombe) before joining Cardiff on a permanent basis in July 2010. He then joined Bristol City on a one-year deal before moving to Burnley in May 2013. He remained in Lancashire for six years before joining Villa in 2019.
Heaton has represented England from the under-16s, all the way to the senior squad, and has been involved in first-team squads since 2015. Heaton made his debut for the Three Lions against Australia on 27 May 2016 in a UEFA Euro 2016 warm-up fixture. Following Villa’s promotion to the Premier League, Heaton was signed as Dean Smith’s no.1 choice between the posts and has brought a wealth of top-flight experience with him to B6.
