Pierluigi Gollini is a highly-rated goalkeeper who returns to England with Villa after a spell with Man Utd under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Born in Bologna, Gollini started life as a midfielder and then switched to defence before moving between the sticks.
Gollini joined the Red Devils from Fiorentina in 2012 at the age of 16.
He was a regular for the U18s and U21s but was unable to break into the senior set-up.
The penalty-saving expert left to join Hellas Verona in 2014 after his contract expired.
Initially signed as third choice goalkeeper - due to the injuries of Rafael and Francesco Benussi - he made his Serie A debut in September 2014 against Genoa.
In February 2015 he took part in the Viareggio Tournament and kept a clean sheet for 458 minutes as he reached the final.
He was awarded ‘goalkeeper of the tournament’.
The Italy U21 international – and former U18 captain - was a rare positive for Verona this past season despite their relegation into Serie B.
He started the 2015/16 as first choice, overtaking Rafael who was loaned out to Cagliari.
He made 27 appearance but earned big praise for his performances throughout the campaign.
Gollini has already been mooted as a future full international.
