On this day in 1994, Villa suffered a 4-3 defeat at Wimbledon, a result which prompted the sacking of manager Ron Atkinson the following day.
Earlier in the year, Big Ron had led the team to League Cup glory at Wembley but a dreadful run in 1994-94 saw Villa collect just one point from nine games, a depressing run which cost him his job.
It looked like the corner had been turned at Selhurst Park.
Despite trailing to an early Warren Barton penalty, Villa led 2-1 at half-time through Garry Parker and Dean Saunders, and although Andy Townsend was sent off, they extended their lead when Saunders netted his second five minutes after the interval.
But Villa’s 10 men capitulated to three late goals, and Atkinson was out.
