FA Cup stolen

FA Cup stolen

On this day in 1895, Villa quite literally lost the FA Cup.

The trophy which had been won with a final victory over neighbours West Bromwich Albion a few months earlier, was loaned by the club to local boot manufacturer William Shillcock for display in their shop window in Newtown.

But it was stolen during the night and was never recovered, forcing the Football Association to have a new one made.
