Slipping to the Saddlers

On this day in 1941, Villa were beaten in a seven-goal thriller – by Walsall.

The Football League was abandoned during the Second World War, and Villa competed mainly in Birmingham & District League games, plus the occasional friendly. One of those was away to the Saddlers, and goals from Frank Broome (2) and Harry Parkes could not prevent a 4-3 defeat.
