Rémi Garde is well aware that his team have been written off in the survival fight but stressed: "I am not speculating on which division we'll be in - I am only focused on trying to win the next game."
Garde knows the challenge is a huge one, with the club anchored at the foot of the division with eight games to go.
But the boss isn't letting his mind get away from him as he solely concentrates on the task in hand - a match with Swansea tomorrow.
He said: "From the time it is certain, you can say we are in this league or that league.
"For the moment this is only speculation. I am only focused on trying to win the next game.
"I am not stupid. It's not going to be easy. It's an impossible mission that we have to make possible.
"I realise it's a huge task. But in football until the game has been played, you never know.
"I still believe and I have shown that since the first day I came to the football club.
"My target was to try to save this football club from relegation. I am only focused on that.
"We do have the obligation to believe. It's not only an obligation, it's something we should have inside every player, inside myself.
"Of course we are in a very bad period - with five defeats. But we have a very important game - an away match which is always difficult.
"The match will be very tight probably, with a lot of tension.
"They are in a better position than us but they probably need more points. We do as well, of course.
"Both teams will give 100%. On our side we will need to be very focused and committed to this game.
"We need to win games. We are in a very urgent situation. Anywhere we are, we need to pick up victories."
