Idrissa Gana cut a frustrated figure after the Man City loss but stressed that hard work is the only option heading into the final games of 2015/16 - starting with Tottenham on Sunday.
Villa went down 4-0 to City at the Etihad Stadium and will look to bounce back this weekend as high-flying Spurs head to B6.
Gana admits confidence in the claret and blue camp is low, due to the bottom position in the Barclays Premier League and four defeats in a row.
But he said there's no substitute for industry, effort and commitment at Bodymoor Heath as Rémi Garde's men look to end the difficult campaign on a high.
He said: "It was very hard for us at Man City. We played a solid game in that first half but in the second half we didn't play as a team.
"They scored two goals very quickly and four goals in total which was hard to take.
"This result was very hard for everybody - players, staff and fans.
"Now all we can do is work very hard on the training ground day after day and keep going.
"The confidence is low, of course, because we are not winning football matches. That happens.
"We have lost four games in a row but we can't dwell on that.
"We have to look forward and focus on what's ahead of us not what's happened before.
"It will be a very difficult challenge to get out of this situation but we do believe.
"Until the end, we will continue to believe and try to win the games to get out of this position."
