Manager on Monday: Garde - We will need the perfect game

Rémi Garde insists Villa need the perfect defensive performance on Tuesday against Everton - and a supremely clinical attacking display too.

Villa host the Toffees tomorrow night, with a 7.45pm kick-off in B6.

Garde is a big fan of the men from Merseyside and knows his own team will have to be 100% in all areas to secure a most valuable three points.

He said: "It's a tremendously important game for us in midweek.

"Picking up the three points would be vital for us.

"Saying that, we know that Everton is a very good side - a very dangerous team with many qualities up front to score goals.

"We will need the perfect game defensively and then we will need to be more threatening offensively."

Norwich and Sunderland lost, like Villa, this weekend while Newcastle didn't play.

That means the claret and blues are still eight points from safety with 11 games remaining.

He added: "All these factors mean it's more painful because psychologically one point against Stoke - and on the table stats - would have been very efficient for us.

"But the hope is still there for us.

"I spoke to the players and the minimum is keeping the spirit and improving on the field to convert the chances we create - and having a clean sheet. Then we will have the three points."
