Stat pack: Vital Okore role explained

Villa will be looking to secure back-to-back wins when they welcome Liverpool on Sunday, with previewing the fixture.

Villa have an impressive record in B6 of late, picking up eight points from a possible 12 in the Barclays Premier League since Boxing Day.

Liverpool's away form, meanwhile, will be a concern to Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have lost four of their last six away matches in the top-flight and conceded 13 goals in that time - only Sunderland (18 conceded) and Norwich (14 conceded) are in worse form defensively on the road.

Moreover, only four sides are in worse form in the Premier League overall than the Merseysiders, whose only win in six was a memorable encounter at Carrow Road that ended 5-4 to Klopp's men.

Having failed to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League this year, Liverpool have struggled to cope with a number of absentees at the back.

That said, this weekend's visitors were able to welcome both Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge back into contention in midweek and Villa will know all too well just how much quality their opponents have in attack.

Roberto Firmino is in fine form for the Reds, who also have the option of Christian Benteke within their ranks, with the Belgian sure to get a warm reception back at Villa Park.

In that sense, Villa's improving backline will need to be on their mettle once more, and one player who has proven to have an excellent impact of late has been Jores Okore.

The Danish international has started 10 matches in all competitions for the Villans this season and ended up on the losing side just twice in said outings.

With those defeats coming against high-flying Arsenal and when reduced to 10-men against West Ham, the circumstances were difficult to say the least.

The young centre-back faces another tough task this weekend but will be looking to prove his worth once more, facing a Liverpool side whom he made his debut for the club against back in 2013.

With Villa conceding just 0.89 goals per game in Okore's nine league starts this season compared to two per game in the 16 matches he has missed, the 23-year old has come on impressively of late and is clearly having an influence at the back.

Alongside the experience of Joleon Lescott, the two have forged a solid partnership, which was evident once more against Norwich last time out.

While it was the Englishman who got the ball rolling at the other end for Villa, Okore put in a commanding display to keep the Canaries at bay and earn his highest rating of the season (8.45).

With three tackles and 15 clearances - one of which was off the line - from the centre-back, only Idrissa Gana (8.80) secured a higher score on the day and a similar performance will be needed if Villa are to extend their unbeaten run at home on Sunday.
