The Boss: Garde on Man City defeat, West Ham, Gestede and Kozak

Rémi Garde spoke to the press post-match after the defeat to Man City.

His views are below.

On the start…

We started very poorly.

We conceded a very stupid corner and after that a goal.

Against such a good team like City, it's always difficult when you go one-nil down after a few minutes.

They defend hard, deep and very well - and go very quickly on the counter-attack.

We were in the worst position after just a few minutes, of course.

On changes to the side…

We are playing three games in seven days and I have some players who cannot cope physically with three games in a row.

I have to deal with that - it's not change for change sake or because the game was lost before playing - not at all.

I have a lot of respect for this competition.

I know it's very important for everyone in this country - and this club because we played in the final last season.

On the penalty decision…

I saw that at half-time and to be fair it was a bit harsh.

It was, for me, quite a generous penalty.

But that's it - it's done.

On the mountain to climb after the second goal…

After 25 minutes, we are 2-0 down - from two set-pieces.

Man City are a good side but I don't remember so many chances in this time, except the set-pieces.

It's very frustrating for us, this situation in the game.

In the last third we were not threatening enough in my opinion.

Bacuna

On whether the result would set Villa back…

Hopefully not! It was in a different competition.

It could help to forget that - and we played against a very good team.

It's a club that is built to win the Premier League and the Champions League - every competition they are in.

They have the players for that - if you looked at the players they had at home or on the bench, they are still fielding a very competitive team. It's very impressive.

We lost 4-0 - let's say it's a bit severe concerning the game we had.

But once again, as I said, we played against City and it's not easy.

On signing a striker on transfer deadline…

I would like - and am still expecting.

I still have hope that I will sign one player, yes.

On the third goal…

I will have to see it again - it's a mistake, it can happen in the game.

I don't want to blame any one of my players particularly.

We need to stick together for the last 15 games.

It's not the time to say 'it's your fault or it's my fault.'

On the fighting spirit…

At 2-0 down, I think we were not at the same tempo that we have shown in previous games.

But, once again, the opposition had quality and it was a more difficult match.

Kozak

On Libor Kozak/Rudy Gestede absences…

They are both injured.

Hopefully one of the two will be fit for the Tuesday game.

Rudy injured his hamstring against West Brom and Libor received a bad kick on his ankle in this game.

On the reaction needed at West Ham...

It will be a Premier League game again.

We will keep focus on this huge target we have.

It will be a different match for sure.

Hopefully we won't start badly like today.

On his personal drive…

I am not working for myself. I am working my hardest for a club which is in big difficulty, big trouble.

My name is not important - I am not here to save my own skin.

I am here to do my best. I know it was not a comfortable position when I came in and I have no regrets.
