Coach Gordon Cowans credited his side's character as the young lions recorded a 3-2 win over Wolves at Telford.
Jack Grealish opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Bright Enobakhare levelled before the break.
Jerell Sellars continued his recent goalscoring form to put Villa ahead - Tommy Rowe netted an equaliser with three minutes of normal time remaining.
With a share of the spoils the most likely outcome, striker Sellars' 91st-minute winner gave the claret and blues the derby bragging rights and Cowans was thrilled with the overall display of his troops.
He said: "I thought we started the game quite well and were the better team for the first 20-25 minutes and got a little sloppy and didn't get on the ball as much as we should've done.
"Andre Green has pace, he was causing them problems all the time and won the penalty.
"Jerell did well scoring two goals. It was a bit scrappy in the second half, they're physical.
"If you look at the number of goals Jerell has scored in and around the box - he is a natural finisher - that's what his game is all about.
"We got the win we wanted.
"I said to them before the game it's a derby game they will be up for it - we were too."
